I have made a lot of questions on the strategy in poker, from novices to advanced, some are simple but include the principles of mathematics 1 that I never entered my head. When this happens I entrust myself to one of my tricks to calculate the chance of winning a hand:

Here’s an example based on a hand on my site:

Our hero was playing at a table small stakes No Limit Hold’em Online, with blinds $ 0.25 $ 0.50. Beginning of the hand was $ 44, his papers were Ad-Td and raised to $ 2. Both blinds called and the flop was Kd-Jd-2c, giving our hero a draft scale. The big blind bets $ 2, Hero raises another $ 2, small blind calls and the big blind moves all in, had more money than our friend.
Our hero should put in the pot his last $ 38? We have the third player folds his hand, if our hero would call and win over $ 94 (the $ 18 pot plus your $ 38 and $ 38 opponent). If he wins the hand four times out of 10 on average was $ 37.60 after ten hands ($ 94 multiplied by 4 and divided by 10). Thinking long term is important in poker, So it should be called only if his percentage of victory is greater than 40%. Now he must immaggine the chances he has of winning the hand.

The first step is to think of the possible hands your opponent, sometimes you understand exactly what he has in hand thanks to his way of points and signals that your body sends, but most times you have to guess. In this situation the other player probably has a very strong hand, but there is a possibility that is doing a bluff or a semi blff.
The highest hand that our hero may face a trio of K, in this case would have 12 outs to win the pot (all the paintings and the three queens), but even if he could close his color or his scale the opponent would have the opportunity to close a full or a poker with the last card. I could calculate the probabilities for each point, but I do not need.

But I can surf the internet and go to one of the many free odds calculators that will give us the% of winning the hand. The result says that Ad Td wins less than 34% of the time against KK, and less than 40% that would make the right call. If our hero was sure that his opponent has a trio should rise, the chances for any other trio are exactly the same.

Instead, if it were against two pair K and J? Using the calculator odds his chances of victory would be 44%, enough to make the correct call. Could also be any double against another couple who beat less likely (42%) or against AK (46%).

It would be an advantage if he were playing against an aggressive opponent who tried a semi bluff with something like QT (81%) or Qd 9d (82%).
Having now calculated the probability of victory to our hero is only the first part of the application, guess what his opponent has in hand. I think it’s likely that your opponent has two pair or less than a set, and I would say that from 5% to 10% of the time Ad Td is higher. I told our hero that representation of the numbers, I called.

Our hero is called, the opponent had KJ giving him a 44% chance of winning the hand. 2d on the turn but was released on the river was a J and the color of our hero has lost against the full opponent. The river was a bang, but playing by the numbers, our hero did the right thing.

It ‘a good thing to know the numbers, but it is equally important to know how to use them, and if you use the accessories that are around when you’re not sure of your calculations, you’ll see that later prove useful to the tables. In poker every accessory in your bag brings you a step closer to dominate the game.

In the past I have shared with you some strategies for playing cash game Short Handed No Limit. This week, I will continue with more tips for the game Short Handed, This time focusing on Limit Hold’em.

If you read the article in the past already know that the value changes hands in the game Short Handed and that it is correct to play a higher percentage of hands than playing in a ring game played at a table full. In matches Short Handed I play many hands. So many, in fact, now I have a reputation for being some kind of maniac. My madness, however, is based on a method. At the end of this article I think that will give me reason.

Play button:

A table of Limit Hold’emIn a cash game with three or four players, will relaunch his hands about two out of three when they are on the button. The quality of my hand is almost irrelevant. The revival of position causes has control of the hand, and even though my papers as good as trash, the pressure will make the blind in a situation where they will be forced to tie something on the flop to win.

For example, consider a case in which I raised from the button and the big blind call with a hand makes modest but playable, for example flowers Q – T of diamonds. The flop comes with an Ace or a K, the blind is unlikely to continue playing the hand if you will check and I will point to the flop. To tell the truth, the blind will have difficulty to continue to play the hand with all the board that do not contain a woman or a ten.

If I follow my raise a bet on the flop, say with 7-high and the opponent does call, or operate a check-raise, it’s really easy to fold. I know this will happen sometimes, but still managed to win the pot often enough to make the constant pressure from the button a productive attitude.

Playing The Small Blind:

When I’m playing against opponents who frequently revived in position, certainly respond by playing aggressively from the small blind. If I have a hand that is probably the best hand to a table Short HandedSomething discrete as A-9 gives an idea, and I’m facing a revival of the button, take control of hand and I will make another raise. This will put more pressure on the big blind. If only called the revival of the button, the big blind would have some great odds (5:1) to call for the tip. Also for me it would be better to play the hand heads up.

After an episode of recovery from the small blind, I will do follow a bet on the flop almost 100% of the time. Since I have represented a strong hand pre-flop, I want to put my opponent before a decision immediately. If I see that my opponent reacts, I can decide how I should proceed with the hand. Sometimes it will go, but the pressure will force many times the opponent to fold.

Playing on the Big Blind:

The big blind is the only position in which I’m glad to call on a bet pre-flop. Fact, the call is my typical reaction to a raise from the button. If I start with a small hand I can see the flop and decide how to proceed. If I start with a strong hand like pocket aces or served the King, however, decide to make call and then implement a check-raise on the flop. I do not like reraise from the big blind because it could be a way to identify opponents of my hand. If I did my opponent would know that I have a really strong starting hand.

Ultimate goal:

How could you understand, I think that aggression is the key to success in playing Limit Hold’em Short Handed. I think the bets and raises frequently create two dynamics that can then be exploited to your advantage. First, deciding to be the one that attacks have a chance to win a number of dishes when I am, my opponent is, we missed the flop.

Moreover, aggression has the tendency to bring your opponents to take bad decisions. After some time, other players might do call on bets made at every street with nothing more than A-King-high or high. When it starts to take this attitude I can close them and focus only with hands that are likely to win showdown.

Sometimes my style may seem a style maniac. In the game Short HandedHowever, this style pay.

Let’s face it: nobody played Pokerbecause he loves the idea of sitting at a table to fold for hours. In a ring game at a table covered with eight or nine other players, each with two cards, however, it is proper to spend most of their time doing fold, because the possibility that an opponent has a strong hand is too likely.

In the game Short HandedHowever, when there are only three or four players with their cards, you’re forced to take the initiative. With the blinds are paid so frequently that you need to play and win a number of dishes just to survive the table. With only a couple of opponents to face, moreover, can not be bothered to come across a strong starting hand. In most hands all have junk in his hand.

Here are some tips to change your strategy in order to better address the matches Short Handed No Limit. Please note that all the advice you will find are calibrated on the game Short HandedWhen the players have large stack in relation to the blind. The advice given in this article do not work particularly well in a tournament or against players who have less than 100 times the big blind.

My love for the games Short Handed is one of the reasons why the game so much online. It ‘rare to find a table with three or four players in a casino, but I can find one online short-handed game whenever I want.

Pre-Flop Strategy:

The tables with three or four players, usually, are very aggressive and not limpo never in a situation of pre-flop. Open the game with a raise or I’ll fold. In a typical short-handed gameI’ll make a new start every three or four hands when I am in a position of blind. Recommend raising with all hands in which relaunched in a table during a full ring game (so with high pairs, AK, AQ). In addition to all relaunch pairs served, including those of 2 and 3. Relaunch with suited connectors, as 5 of spades and 4 of spades.

What might be a surprise is that I am extremely cautious with hands that seem promising. Hands like AJ, AT and KJ, are hands that most people know that should be treated with caution in a ring game at a table full, but I will fold these hands even a short-handed table, often. Why? Well, these are hands that could probably get in big trouble. For example, if I raise with KJ and the flop comes with KT-3, I could win a small pot with a bet my top pair, if the opponents fold or I could lose a much larger pot if my hand was beaten by discrete two pair, a set or top pair with top kicker.

It is also important to note that hands like AJ, AT are practically useless against a re-raise and have to be passed against most opponents. With a hand like 4 of spades and 5 of spades, however, may call a re-raise with the hope of hitting a great point on the flop (two pair or trio) or a strong project was shut down after that if I would win the ‘my opponent’s entire stack. If there is a flop with a pair of suited connector, or just tie the bottom pair (pair lower than any possible on a given flop) can easily move your hand on a bet on the flop.
If I call a re-raise with AT, however, and tied the top pair on a flop of T as the maximum paper I could be in serious trouble if the other side a higher pair. Or if it were an ace on the flop shot could lose because of a kicker higher than my opponent.

Post-Flop Strategy:

If a pre-flop raise the cutoff or button is called by one of the blind, it is important to take maximum advantage of their position. Note that in one short-handed game Your opponent probably will not have a very strong hand and that even if he had something decent there is a possibility of missing the flop. (In Texas Hold’em a couple of different papers did not link a pair about two-thirds of the time).

So if I completely missing the flop while holding something like 6-high, aim always in every situation. If someone makes the call or implement a check-raise, fold smoothly. In any case I can win the pot often enough to still make a profitable bet in this situation.

If, however, I happen to have in hand an Ace with a decent kicker and missed the flop, usually decide to check. In one short-handed game a point like A-high can win the showdown and get a free card can give me a chance to close a point on the turn.

Punter even with the most projects on the flop. Often happen to win the pot with a bet. Even if someone were to call I would have the possible benefit of having increased the value of the pot. So if I close my project to turn or river there would be a good chance to win the whole stack of my opponent.

Psychological Strategy:

Game Short Handed requires a bit of time to be mastered. The pace is furious, and forces you to make many difficult decisions in a very short period of time. The fluctuations of the stacks are much heavier than a ring game played at a full table, but I think that after having got used to the rhythm of the action, most of the players love the adrenaline that characterizes the game short handed.

Royal Flush: The best poker hand ever, a royal flush combines an Ace and a color scale. Composed of Ace, King, Queen, Jack and 10, all the same suit. If two players have both a royal flush, the pot is split.

Straight Flush: A straight flush is like a royal flush, with the difference that the scale consists of five cards of the same suit is Ace. An example of a straight flush is 9, 8, 7, 6 and 5 of the same suit. If two players both have a straight flush, the player who has the scale with the highest card. If both scales have the same highest card, the pot is split.

Poker: A hand containing four cards of equal value, like four Aces or four Jack. When two players each have a poker hand wins that one with the highest value card. In the event that both players have the same poker hand wins which has the fifth card (kicker) Higher.

Full: A kind and a pair together form a full house. Examples of full three Kings and two 10 or three 4 and two Aces. When two players both have a full house and wins the highest three matching cards. In the two examples just cited, the winning hand would be with three Kings

Color: The color is a hand consisting of five cards of the same suit, ie five hearts, five flowers, five spades or five pictures. When two players have a color, wins the hand with the highest card. If two hands with the same highest card, the comparison is made between the second card and so on, until it is agreed that the hand is better than the other.

Scale: Five cards in sequence form a scale, for example 6, 5, 4, 3 and 2. When two or more players have a scale, the one who wins the highest card. If two players have the same scale with the highest card, the pot is split. The seeds do not matter for determining the scale stronger. An Ace can count as the highest card on a scale of Ace, King, Queen, Jack and 10 or as the lowest card on a scale of 5, 4, 3, 2, Ace. Only the Ace can be used in this way.

Tris: Three cards of same rank, like three Jacks or three 8. When two players have three of a kind, one who wins the trio consisting of the higher. If two players have the same trio, the player who has the fourth highest card.

Two Pair: A hand consisting of two cards of the same value in combination with two other cards of the same value also, as two 10 and two 6. When two players have two pair, the player who has the best pair. If two players have the same high pair, you look at the value of the pair lower, and if you look at the fifth card, or kicker.

Mature: A hand consisting of two identical cards, like two Aces or two Jacks, and three different papers together. When two or more players have a pair, the highest pair wins. If two players have the same pair, the player who has the third highest card.

High Card: A hand that does not contain any of the combinations listed above. When two or more players have a hand like that, the player who has the highest card, then the second highest card, then the third and so on. The rankings go from Ace (high card) to 2 (the lowest card).

the book by Gus Hansen

Perhaps you will ever see Gus Hansen, the last tournament television, holding a voice recorder, on which he noted continuously phrases in Danish.
Well, now the explanation for this unusual behavior is unclear.
Gus was noted each hand is played, his evaluations, his style of play, which is now published in a book: “Every Hand Revealed.”

What is disconcerting and at the same time fascinating, is that the Dane was able to monitor each hand of a major international tournament, then won!
Indeed Gus has brought home the trophy Aussie Millions 2007, superceding 747 opponents and won $ 1,200,000.

So the interesting experiment to record the hand histories and impressions on the tournament, has turned into a real story in which we can all follow the reasoning of Hansen at the start of the tournament victory.

The book is now in English, but given the uniqueness of the text, we expect soon to be published in other languages, hopefully also in Italian. get your poker bonus here

gus Hansen, the star of poker that goes crazy for football
The Bellagio is giving the show. As always. Gus Hansen is the chip leader of the 2008 World Poker Tour Championship, the tournament takes place at the Casino in Las Vegas where they play the strongest in the world. Remained in 6. And he dominates with his aggressive style and never banal. It is one of the stars world of Texas Hold’em, although there is still a bracelet at the World Series. But for now he does not think. March 2008 To all his winnings amounted to $ 5,410,926, a figure that allows him to remain at 27th place in the ranking of earnings of all time. Not bad …

Hansen, before becoming a professional poker has been a champion of backgammon. There are features or technical issues that have helped in poker?
“No, I’m kidding … In fact there are things in common in these two games that helped me to transfer my skills from backgammon to poker: it takes a certain mentality mathematics, knowing how to calculate percentages of a certain event , it takes a lot of analysis of the game, a lot of experience and a profound ability to concentrate. Over the past 15 years I played very much backgammon and poker, and this helped me a lot ”

His style is unique: it believes it has affected the way we played today in texas hold’em?
“Well, I’m known as a player rather eccentric. Actually I think it was television to want to give me this picture, that is, what played with cards such as 4-2 off-suited (not the same suit, ndr. ). And yes, I happened to play with those cards, but they were special situations where the game was correct. Today’s game is much different than before, much more aggressive. People play many more hands, perhaps because they seen me do it successfully on TV, but certainly also due to the boom of the Internet: the boys who play online can see that sometimes should also play hands that are not much, but still fairly aggressive. Well, seeing I have learned to be more aggressive ”

What are the players who respect each other more, or who is afraid?
“I do not think being afraid of someone in particular. There are certainly some players who respect their game. Phil Ivey is very good at all facets of poker. Patrick Antonius also estimated, but still lacks something in tournaments. We all make errors of course, but Patrik can improve a lot in tournaments

Do you think it important to study the books to become really good?
As I mentioned before, the experience is a very important factor. When we played and then analyze the key hands that we played, take inspiration from books, from other players and thus also benefit from the experience of others. There are many books in circulation and I do not agree with all the ideas that they are expressed. I will not name names, but some of these ideas are at least “questionable”, so I did not express the advantage that you may have read in some books. Sometimes it would be very analyze situations better in person: Sit down with your friend and watch your hands that you played. Always try to understand what you could do better in a given situation to get a better result than what you got. That said, here comes a book really very good (laughs).. This is “Gus Hansen – Every Hand Revealed ‘. It is a book to live tournaments. This is the analysis of a tournament since its inception at the end: I brought with me a small tape recorder and described every hand that took part. From 750 players to one, and fortunately I was that player (this is the Aussie Millions in Melbourne 2007, ed)! What novelty of this book is its analysis direct hand in which I was involved with my arguments Warm sometimes correct, sometimes silly but always original and straight to the heart of the matter, with a thorough analysis of situations. I think it is a book suitable for both beginners for the more experienced players. ”

Why are there so many kids around Scandinavian good at poker?
“I think a speech like backgammon, where Denmark is strong. In Denmark, the Backgammon is a tradition, almost every play and we are strong. Many young people play, study, analyze, and this is a good way to improve. And poker with the same story: in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, there are many young people who play and become stronger. Obviously there are good young people around the world. But there are many Scandinavians who love to study, play, analyze, improve, move in the right direction. And this is why we see so many still do well in tournaments. ”

During his career, missing a bracelet at the World Series. As it would give for it?
‘It’s always nice to win a tournament. For me, it’s called the WSOP, WPT or EPT does not make much difference. And’ a poker tournament. You sit, you see lots of familiar faces, many new ones, and like any other tournament will take part to win. So, I would strongly winning a WSOP tournament, but equally I would have liked to win an EPT as the last of Monaco. But do not invest anything for a WSOP bracelet, rather than an EPT or WPT title . I want to play tournaments, do it well, make the right decisions to reach the final table. What then is to win a trophy, a bracelet or an earring does not make much difference to me. ”

His site, Theplayr.com, is now online in Italian. What is your relationship with the Italians and Italy?
“My Italian sucks! I do not understand a word I try to bluff … I do not know if you know what I mean … but we almost never guesses! ThePlayr.com born in Denmark on the Danish boys, and I am the main content … get many of my thoughts, which follows the game, as I go tournaments. Quido advice, ask questions and quizzes on the forum, where people can meet, and more, so my relationship with Italy is ok. I do not know if I should say, but I am 90 years tifavo Milan. I hope this does not make others angry fans: I like football, I like to watch and play. I know that in Italy it is crazy for football so this is a good start no? ”

What is your advice to Italian players?
“I saw some Italian players who definitely need to improve and strong Italian players, like Luca Pagano who is already very good. The poker boom has come first in Scandinavia, and is now exploding in Italy. Like all things at the beginning need to gain experience, poker is a game of experience, you must learn a bit ‘of mathematics, to analyze the opponents, basically they have to play many hands of poker, read a great book … This is a way to improve and win. There will be much poker in the future of Italy, I’m sure. ” get your poker bonus here

Interview with Gus Hansen after the WPT Championship

Gus Hansen has eliminated all the players except one at the final table of the WPT $ 25,000 Championship last weekend.
David Chiu, who he’s been good during the final stages, while Gus destroy opponents, has managed a great comeback in the final and took away the Danish title is almost certain.

Card PlayerGus, how are you feeling now?

Hansen: Well, honestly I’m really dipiaciuto. I know that I just won 1.7 million dollars, but in my mind there is still the thought of having lost another 1.7 million.

CPHow you played the tournament?

Hansen: My game is really good at this time. I feel I have experienced in many aspects and nuances than a couple of years ago. I think I’ve found a good balance between aggressive play and intuitive. This helps me to put even more pressure to opponents and exploit the right time.

CP: Tell us about the ‘heads-up against David Chiu.

Hansen: I think I made a mistake in ‘heads-up. I did not bet on the flop 5-5-4 after preflop (David Chiu has also got to do with the river), but otherwise I am very pleased with the game delivered. David Chiu has folded at the right times, when I reraise with JJ, KK and AA but decided to call with 5-5 when I reraise with 2-2.
Most of the time I had the second best hand “when Chiu had a good hand. The last hand I was at 64% chance of victory but the two pair has failed. Poker is so sometimes.

CP: What are your future plans?

Hansen: I’ll stay in Las Vegas for a few days, then return to Europe and I rilasserò a month. I think I’m in good shape for success at the WSOP! Also coming out my book “Every Hand Revealed” in May and I plan many promotional activities.

CP: Thank you Gus Hansen and congratulations for your tournament.

The blog of Daniel Negreanu A solid final table in the HORSE is possible.

They were 24 players and should not be a surprise that about half of them part of the Big Game at the Bellagio.

At least seven took part in the 4000/8000 $ Mixed Game of Bobby’s Room

Daniel Negreanu, Doyle Brunson, Barry Greenstein, Phil Ivey, Huck Seed, Ralph Perry, Lyle Berman.
This is the final table for which I am rooting, with the addition of one of Erick Lindgren, Scotty Nguyen or Farzan Bonyadi.
Scotty and Bonyadi were good players for years to Mixed Games of Mid-and High Limit cash game, and E-DOG (Lindgren) … well he is a friend of mine, so I have to cheer for him!

I think it is important that this HORSE event continues to have excellent players at the final table, just with some little surprise.

Is now almost one o’clock p.m. and are ready for this DAY 4.
